In this position, working closely with Account Managers, Technical Service Managers for Color in St Louis and the Technical Director in St Louis, you will use technical knowledge to promote, build and maintain business within assigned accounts.  This position is based in a remote office; namely, Hoffman Estates. 

This position requires close and extensive interaction working independently with the Flavor Group scientists on joint development projects and giving ideation presentations to selected customers.

What you will do:

Customer Technical Interface:

  • Work with account managers to develop account strategies which outline actions on how Sensient can increase value delivery and share of business at these key accounts.  Develop and execute innovation and training seminars alone and in conjunction with the CSL.
  • Coordinate project activity with the CSL, ensuring emphasis is placed on highest priority opportunities.  Determine which projects should be executed by independently (hands on), which ones they work in tandem and which projects are executed by the CSL.  They track and follow up on all projects completed by CSL.  Ensure projects are completed satisfactorily, check on the status of evaluation, determine plans for project commercialization, determine potential volumes and if there is any follow up that needs to be performed.  Insure internal execution is expedited.
  • Build relationship with customers at account assignments.  Work with Innovation Manager and CSL to develop opportunity analysis and project brief for new product development.
  • Provide technical support to assigned accounts when Directors need involvement.
  • Coordinate and execute various seminars and innovation events with these key accounts.
  • Identify and quantify opportunities, develop and execute projects utilizing the appropriate CPS sales tools to plan and document results. 
  • Interface with appropriate personnel at the company’s accounts as necessary to meet customer needs and fulfill sales objectives.  
  • Provide technical service to clients and prospects, advice on proper use of food colorants, and provides samples, technical data, and specifications.

Sales and Sales Support:

  • Drive long term, sustainable business growth through identification and quantification of new project opportunities and converting these opportunities to new sales.  Establishes criteria and applies knowledge to develop solutions that meet customer needs and help drive movement of projects in the sales project pipeline.
  • Assist account managers preparing new project scope, developing the account strategy and opportunity identification utilizing the CPS sales tools for pipeline prioritization.
  • Track and follow up on all projects execution using CRM capability or sales other tools.
  • Expedite technical requests and sampling.
  • Act as liaison between key customers and Application Managers of internal resources.
  • Prepare and execute seminars and training for key customers.

Hands-on technical development:

  • Provide technical service to clients and prospects, advice on proper use of food colorants, and provides samples, technical data and specifications.
  • Work across all food and beverage application areas.
  • Provide color support to application work done by all SXT Flavor application teams.
  • Support development of samples for ideation sessions that are produced at SXT Flavors.
  • Ensure the best natural color technologies are used in all SXT Flavor application work.
  • Support presentations to customer where color technical expertise is required.
  • Work closely with the TSM teams in St Louis to understand best technologies for various applications
  • Work on joint NPD projects when required.

Continuing technical expertise:

  • Keep up-to-date on new technology, application and regulations for of all food colorants
  • Work side-by-side with CSL scientists on key account projects, when available, to keep current on new color formulations and technologies.
  • Stay connected with key professional organizations.

What you will bring:

  • Baccalaureate degree, preferably in chemistry or food science.  An advanced degree or MBA is preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years applied technology, technical sales or laboratory experience is required. 
  • Face to face interaction with customers or related training is preferred.
  • Ability to travel to St Louis, MO required
  • Strong interpersonal, analytical, verbal and written skills.
  • Ensure the highest level of commitment to Safe Quality Food (SQF) in order to provide assurance that all products have been produced, prepared and handled according to the highest possible standards.
