Coaching at Sensient

coaching is a key ingredient to our Sensient success

We are committed to helping our employees grow and develop in their roles to meet their future career goals.

This is why having a strong coaching culture is a top priority for Sensient.

what does this mean for you as an employee?

Coaching at Sensient means teaching:  Teaching you how to be better in your job and how to reach your career goals. At Sensient, we expect that you will collaborate with your manager on your growth, your development, and, ultimately, your future. If you join the Sensient team, you can expect coaching from your manager in various forms:

  • Frequent one-on-one meetings
  • Career conversations
  • Individual development plans
  • Performance reviews

You also will have a voice in providing feedback to your manager about coaching.

what does this mean for you as a manager?

As a manager, you will experience Sensient’s coaching culture from two sides: as a coach for your employees, and as the one receiving coaching from your own manager. You will have support and training to prepare you to be an all-star coach. Through participation in our Coaching Challenge program and receiving frequent coaching information and resources, coaching will be a key part of your leadership journey at Sensient.

how are we driving a coaching culture at Sensient?

the coaching challenge

To prepare our leaders to be coaches, each manager participates in the 6-month Coaching Challenge, which includes:

  • Feedback from employees:  Employees complete multiple surveys about their leader’s coaching and leadership to give important, real-time feedback.
  • Coaching action plan:  Leaders create a plan to enhance their coaching skills, based on their team’s feedback. Then, they put the plan into action and see their improvements.
  • Coaching training:  What is coaching and how does a leader actually coach? Each leader is trained on these questions to be successful.
  • Friendly competition:  Based on the feedback from employees, Coaching Challenge winners from across the globe are selected based on their improvements.

By the end of the Sensient Coaching Challenge, our leaders have a better understanding of both the individual needs of their team and how their coaching is perceived, making them stronger and more effective coaches.

continuous coaching

Coaching is a continual focus throughout the year. Managers can expect monthly information on coaching topics, such as:

  • Providing feedback as a coach
  • Asking coaching questions versus giving directions
  • Managing conflict through coaching
  • Coaching through career conversations

The continuous coaching content provides ideas and resources for our leaders. This regular focus leads to a culture that appreciates and expects coaching, and helps our employees meet their career goals.

I appreciate the guidance, support and encouragement that Sensient provides when it comes to coaching their employees. The Coaching Challenge pushed me to do things outside my comfort zone but made me realize the importance of what coaching does for employees. It is easier for me to provide coaching when my team is aware that it is for their own growth, in addition to the success of the company. If I didn’t provide coaching when necessary, I wouldn’t be doing anyone any favors.
